I use the yoga mat as a space to be with my body, breath, and spirit. It’s a playground, a place to practice how to be in the world during daily life. If we can learn to have a little more compassion towards ourselves, treat ourselves with more kindness, show up for ourselves when things are both easy and tough, we might view the world in a different way.
I like to focus on postural muscles, ones that help us sit, stand, and walk; muscles that we use to reach, hold on to, and to hold our head high. If we can move through life with a little more comfort, less discomfort, then our quality of life may increase. This will mean different things to different bodies, which is why the physical practice of yoga is accessible to everyone and every body.
Whether you are looking to increase the range of motion of your joints, build strength in your muscles, or practice techniques to help you feel more grounded and in control, yoga is a tool that can help you on your journey.
If you are conscious, yoga is for you. A flexible body is not required; please come with a flexible mind and open heart.
Aspects of a physical yoga practice may include moving your body through various postures using isometric and eccentric movements, aiding to engage your muscles while lengthening them simultaneously. Additional weight is not typically used, though resistance and various props are available to assist and expand the practice.
